When I go out to eat I want it to be special, so I don't go out to eat often. You may have seen the tips on how to cut calories at restaurants, but really, do you want to pay high prices in restaurants for raw salads and simple steamed vegetables? If not, how can you solve the dilemma of too many calories when eating out?
Here Are SEVEN Tips For Getting Calories Out Of Restaurant Meals While Still Ordering Your Favorites.
1. Say NO To Large Sizes:
The size you ordered is already too large. Stop oversizing and save money. Better yet, order a dinner and order an extra plate. Numerous eateries do it for a dollar or two, and it's awesome. Then share the food with your friend and divide the cost in half.
Another option is to order from the menu called "aperitivo". Two people can order three main courses, one dessert and split everything and it's still a lot of food.
2. Avoid Bread And Muffins :
Many family restaurants still serve a bread basket with your meal. Unless it's a freshly baked loaf or really special loaf, just skip it. You don't need to fill up on regular bread when you're paying good money for a meal.
Just ask to have it removed if you can't resist, but frankly, you're an adult, you can resist, if you want. You can basically decide not to put a move on your plate. Give it a try, just once and see if you don't leave that restaurant feeling strangely powerful.
If you can't skip the muffins, at least skip the butter. So is. Eat it alone. Whole wheat bread is delicious on its own.
3. Stop Ordering Drinks:
Soft drinks are a great source of income for restaurants. For pennies they sell you a splash of syrup and club soda and act like they're doing you a huge favor by charging you just $ 1.29 for a giant 64-ounce soda.
Start saving those dollars. Especially if you are ordering "to go", skip the drink. If you're eating it there, ask for water or at least switch to diet drinks. Never drink "soda".
4. Slow Down, Eat Too Fast:
What's the rush? Take as much time as necessary, appreciate the experience, appreciate the flavors. A big part of getting in touch with your hunger cues and learning how to eat what will actually satisfy you is learning to recognize subtle hunger cues. You won't know when you're approaching satisfaction if you've swallowed it all in five minutes.
Take a bite and then watch how many times you chew before you start to want to swallow. One time two times? Make an effort to chew your food and your body will be much happier. A large part of digestion begins in the mouth, not to mention that you will get a lot more pleasure if you let the food stay.
5. Trim Noticeable Skin And Excess :
I know, you truly love skin; obviously it does, it tastes great, it ought to be unadulterated fat. Would you like to get thinner or would you like to eat fat? You choose. I never eat chicken skin and never eat the visible fat that hangs from a steak, with or without good flavor.
Do you have to decide what you want more, the second pleasure of a delicious taste, or a lifetime carrying an extra 40 pounds? I know this goes against low carb people's belief that fat is good, carbs are bad, but I have maintained an 80 pound weight loss without dieting and eat no visible fat or skin. Enough talk.
6. Ask For A Doggie Bag At The Beginning Of The Meal:
When the food is served, immediately ask for some to take home for tomorrow. Most restaurants in the United States serve too much. There is no law, you need to eat everything. Do this frequently and you will soon find that you will get an extra lunch of that meal.
7. Get A Copy Of Restaurant:
Get a copy of Restaurant Confidential and start checking how many calories you are actually eating. If you eat out frequently and have extra weight, that is probably the problem. This booklet can help you figure out why you don't seem to eat that much and can't lose weight. Hardees recently introduced a new burger that is just under 1200 calories on its own! That is terrifying.
If you really want to control your weight problem, first watch where you eat, then what you eat, and thirdly, how much you eat. Where, what and how much? Try these steps choosing one tip at a time and see how easily you can cut some of the calories out of restaurant food.
